A platform devoted to risk in all its numerical forms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the topic of your next video?
Really great question! The list of possible videos continues to grow. The next series (as of July 2024) will likely focus on Bayesian methods, based on messages received from others. Don’t hesitate to reach out via the contact page to help inform future videos!
Are you open to collaborations?
In short, yes! The longer answer is that, as I am still in the first year of this platform, there are certain aspects of its direction that are up in the air. At this point, the most important aspect of this platform is the ability to provide accessible, high quality educational content.
How do you make your videos?
Prior to making online videos in 2020, I had no strong sense around the number of tools and resources needed to develop online educational content. Developing each video is a many day process. I’ll make a blog post where I delve into this subject further so that others can have a bit of a ‘head start’ should they want to delve into this space. In short, I use a range of resources for video editing (Premiere Pro), animations (Python libraries such as matplotlib), audio (Audition), images (Illustrator). This is not an exhaustive list of resources, but it does give a sense of the number of tools that may be needed to build out your own videos.
Beyond the blog and videos, what else are you working on?
RiskByNumbers is something that I’d like to grow into something larger. Currently, I spend most of my days conducting research and teaching in areas related to the channel as a full-time faculty member. I do also provide consulting services, largely with the goal of ensuring that what I teach in the classroom is relevant to practice. As a consultant, I will frequently help organizations better model their data or help them develop simulation models (e.g., Monte Carlo methods) to quantify and mitigate risks.
